Once over the ocean in distant landsA
In an age long past were two hostile bandsA
Two armies of men both brave both strongB
And their hearts beat high as they marched alongB
To fight the battle of right and wrongB
-
-
Never I think did the Eye of heavenC
Look down on two armies so nearly evenD
In well trained soldiers in strength and mightE
But one was theF
WrongB
and one was theF
RightE
-
And the last was the stronger in heaven's sightE
And these hostile armies drew near one nightE
And pitched their tents on two hill sides greenG
With only the brow of a hill betweenG
-
-
With the first red beams of the morning lightE
Both knew would open the awful fightE
And one of the armies lay hushed and stillH
And slept in the tents on the green side hillH
Heart beat with heart and they all were as oneC
In the thought of the battle to be begunC
With the first bright glance of the morning sunC
Their aim was ignoble their cause was wrongB
But they wereI
unitedJ
and so they were strongB
-
-
Not so the army just over the hillH
While the ranks of the foe were hushed and stillH
The ranks of theF
RightE
were torn with strifeK
And with noise and confusion the air was rifeK
Disputes and quarrels dissensions and jarsL
And the sound of fighting and civil warsM
And ere the morning brother and brotherI
Instead of the enemy fought with each otherI
-
-
Over the hill the foe in gleeN
Listened and laughed 'Ho ho ' quoth heN
'There is strife in the enemy's ranks I seeN
And the bright red beams of the rising sunC
Will see a victory easily wonC
It matters little how strong the foeO
This is a truth we all do knowO
-
There is no success without unityN
-
However noble the cause may beN
The day is ours before it's begunC
Ho for the triumph so easily won '-
-
-
And on the morrow the ranks of the RightE
Were routed and beaten and put to flightE
And the Wrong was the victor and gained the fightE
-
-
There are two armies abroad to dayP
As in the age that has passed awayP
The makers and venders and patrons and allQ
Who aid in the traffic of AlcoholR
These are the warriors bold and strongB
Who swell the ranks of the army of WrongB
And we are the soldiers true and braveS
Who are striving with heart and hand to saveS
The youths of our land from the deep dark graveS
That the foe is digging by day and by nightE
OnlyN
one thingT
can defeat the RightE
There is nothing but triumph for us unlessU
-
DissensionC
that crafty foe to successU
Creeps into our ranks Oh let usV
uniteE
-
Let heart beat with heart as we enter the fightE
Let the whole mighty army beN
oneC
for the timeW
And sweep on the foe in a column sublimeW
In its unity earnestness oneness and mightE
Till the foe stands aghast at the wonderful sightE
Till the enemy cowers and shivers afraidX
Of the awful approach of the grand cavalcadeX
Close up the ranks brothers sisters draw nearY
We are fighting one fight we are all kinsmen hereZ
Closer still closer in nearness lies mightE
Love is our watchword on to the fightE
