The Tulip Bed At Greeley Square Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AA BB CC DD EE FF GG HH II JJ KK LL AA LL

You know that oasis fresh and fairA
In the city desert as Greeley squareA
-
That bright triangle of scented bloomB
That lies surrounded by grime and gloomB
-
Right in the breast of the seething townC
Like a gleaming gem or a wanton s gownC
-
Ah wonderful things that tulip bedD
Unto my listening soul has saidD
-
Over the rattle and roar of the streetE
I hear a chorus of voices sweetE
-
Day and night when I pass that wayF
And these are the things the voices sayF
-
Here in the heart of the foolish strifeG
We live a simple and natural lifeG
-
Here in the midst of the clash and dinH
We know what it is to be calm withinH
-
Here environed by sin and shameI
We do what we can with our pure white flameI
-
We do what we can with our bloom and graceJ
To make the city a fairer placeJ
-
It is well to be good though the world is vileK
And so through the dust and the smoke we smileK
-
We are but atoms in chaos tossedL
Yet never a purpose for truth was lostL
-
Ah many a sermon is uttered thereA
By the bed of blossoms in Greeley squareA
-
And he who listens and hears arightL
Is better equipped for the world s hard fightL
