The Traveled Man Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD AEAE FAFA GHGH AIAI JKJK

Sometimes I wish the railroads all were torn outA
The ships all sunk among the coral strandsB
I am so very weary yea so worn outA
With tales of those who visit foreign landsB
-
When asked to dine to meet these traveled peopleC
My soup seems brewed from cemetery bonesD
The fish grows cold on some cathedral steepleC
I miss two courses while I stare at thronesD
-
I'm forced to leave my salad quite untastedA
Some musty moldy temple to exploreE
The ices fruit and coffee all are wastedA
While into realms of ancient art I soarE
-
I'd rather take my chance of life and reasonF
If in a den of roaring lions hurledA
Than for a single year ay for one seasonF
To dwell with folks who'd traveled round the worldA
-
So patronizing are they so oppressiveG
With pity for the ones who stay at homeH
So mighty is their knowledge so aggressiveG
I ofttimes wish they had not ceased to roamH
-
They loathe the new they quite detest the presentA
They revel in a pre Columbian mornI
Just dare to say America is pleasantA
And die beneath the glances of their scornI
-
They are increasing at a rate alarmingJ
Go where I will the traveled man is thereK
And now I think that rustic wholly charmingJ
Who has not strayed beyond his meadows fairK
