The Sword Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDEFGHG

Amidst applauding cheers I won a prizeA
A cynic watched me with ironic eyesA
An open foe in open hatred sneeredB
I cared for neither Then my friend appearedB
Eager I listened for his glad 'Well done 'C
But sudden shadow seemed to shroud my sunD
He praised me yet each slow unwilling wordE
Forced from its sheath base Envy's hidden swordF
Two edged it wounded me but worst of allG
It thrust my friend down from his pedestalH
And showed him as he was so small so smallG
