The Spirit Of Great Joan Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGF HIJIKLML ANONPQRS TLULDBVD

Back of each soldier who fights for FranceA
Aye back of each woman and manB
Who toils and prays through these long tense daysC
Is the spirit of Great JoanD
For the love she gave and the life she gaveE
In the eyes of God sufficedF
To crown her with light and power and mightG
That made her second to ChristF
-
-
And so in that hour at the Marne she cameH
To the seeing eyes of menI
And the blind of view still felt and knewJ
That her spirit had come againI
And she will come in each crucial hourK
And joy shall follow despairL
For Joan sees her France on its kneesM
And she hears the voice of its prayerL
-
-
There is no hate in the heart of FranceA
But a mighty moral forceN
That takes its stand for her worshipped landO
And cannot be swerved from its courseN
For this is the way with France to dayP
Her courage comes from faithQ
And she bends her knee ere she straightens her armR
In her forward rush toward deathS
-
-
A jungle of beasts in the heart of the HunT
War to the world laid bareL
And war has revealed that France concealedU
Only the lion's lairL
A lioness fighting to save her ownD
She fights as a lioness canB
And strength to the end shall the Unseen sendV
In the spirit of Great JoanD
