The Ship And The Boat Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFG HIJI KLML NOAO PQRQ FSTS

In the great ship Life we speed alongA
With sails and pennons spreadB
And tethered beside the great ship glideC
The mystic boats for the deadB
-
Over the deck of the ship of LifeD
Our loved and lost we lowerE
And calm and steady his small boat readyF
Death silently sits at the oarG
-
He rows our dead away from our sightH
Away from our hearing or kenI
We call and cry for a last good byeJ
But they never come back againI
-
The ship of Life bounds on and onK
The river of Time runs fastL
And yet more swift our dear dead driftM
For ever back into the PastL
-
We do not forget those loved and lostN
But they fade away like a dreamO
As we hurry along on the current strongA
Of Time's great turbulent streamO
-
On and on and ever awayP
Our sails are filled by the windQ
We see new places we meet new facesR
And the dead are far behindQ
-
Their boats have drifted into the seaF
That laves God's holy feetS
But the river's course too seeks that sourceT
So the ship and the boat shall meetS
