The Search Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD AEAE FGFG HIHI JKJK LMLM NENE

The rain falls long and the rain falls lightA
With a desolate drip drop sad to hearB
But never a star shines through the nightA
As I sit afar from the world anearB
-
Down in the parlour some one singsC
The children laugh in the nursery hallD
But my heart like a bird has spread its wingsC
And leaves the music and mirth and allD
-
Out in the rain and the eerie nightA
Into the darkness it speeds awayE
Ah me ah me 'tis a gruesome flightA
Seeking for you till the dawn of dayE
-
If it only knew which way to goF
Where you wander or where you lieG
To valleys of sunshine or hills of snowF
Thither at once my heart would flyG
-
Fly and follow wherever you ledH
Over the desert and over the waveI
Or if it found you lying deadH
It would sit in the rain by your lonely graveI
-
Sit in the rain and cover the grassJ
With passionate kisses above your faceK
Sit there waiting till death should passJ
And bear it to you in his strong embraceK
-
But hither and thither all is vainL
It flies in the darkness and seeks for youM
Back in the morning drenched with rainL
The poor thing cometh with never a clueM
-
But all night long the rain falls downN
Like a poor crazed thing that has lost its wayE
Through the forest and through the townN
It searches for you till the break of dayE
