The River Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHIIJJ KKLLM| I am a river flowing from God s sea | A |
| Through devious ways He mapped my course for me | A |
| I cannot change it mine alone the toil | B |
| To keep the waters free from grime and soil | B |
| The winding river ends where it began | C |
| And when my life had compassed its brief span | C |
| I must return to that mysterious source | D |
| So let me gather daily on my course | D |
| The perfume from the blossoms as I pass | E |
| Balm from the pines and healing from the grass | E |
| And carry down my current as I go | F |
| Not common stones but precious gems to show | F |
| And tears the holy water from sad eyes | G |
| Back to God s sea from which all rivers rise | G |
| Let me convey not blood from wounded hearts | H |
| Nor poison which the upas tree imparts | H |
| When over flowery vales I leap with joy | I |
| Let me not devastate them nor destroy | I |
| But rather leave them fairer to the sight | J |
| Mine be the lot to comfort and delight | J |
| And if down awful chasms I needs must leap | K |
| Let me not murmur at my lot but sweep | K |
| On bravely to the end without one fear | L |
| Knowing that He who planned my ways stands near | L |
| For Love is all and over all Amen | M |
