The River Of Sleep Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAAB CDCCD EFEEF FDFFD GDGGD ADAAD

There are curious isles in the River of SleepA
Curious isles without numberB
We'll visit them all as we leisurely creepA
Down the winding stream whose current is deepA
In our beautiful barge of SlumberB
-
The very first isle in this wonderful streamC
Quite close to the shore is lyingD
And after a supper of cakes and creamC
We come to the Night Mare Isle with a screamC
And hurry away from it cryingD
-
And next is the Island of LullabyE
And every one there rejoicesF
The winds are only a perfumed sighE
And the birds that sing in the treetops tryE
To imitate Mothers' voicesF
-
A little beyond is the Isle of DreamsF
Oh that is the place to be strayingD
Everything there is just as it seemsF
Dolls are real and sunshine gleamsF
And no one calls us from playingD
-
And then we come to the drollest isleG
And the funniest sounds come pouringD
Down from its borderlands once in a whileG
And we lean o'er our barge and listen and smileG
For that is the Isle of SnoringD
-
And the very last isle in the River of SleepA
Is the sunshiny Isle of WakingD
We see it first with our eyes a peepA
And we give a yawn then away we leapA
The barge of Slumber forsakingD
