The Queen's Last Ride Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BBCC DDEE BBFFGGHHGG IIJJGG DD

Written on the day of Queen Victoria's funeralA
-
-
-
The Queen is taking a drive to dayB
They have hung with purple the carriage wayB
They have dressed with purple the royal trackC
Where the Queen goes forth and never comes backC
-
Let no man labour as she goes byD
On her last appearance to mortal eyeD
With heads uncovered let all men waitE
For the Queen to pass in her regal stateE
-
Army and Navy shall lead the wayB
For that wonderful coach of the Queen's to dayB
Kings and Princes and Lords of the landF
Shall ride behind her a humble bandF
And over the city and over the worldG
Shall the Flags of all Nations be half mast furledG
For the silent lady of royal birthH
Who is riding away from the Courts of earthH
Riding away from the world's unrestG
To a mystical goal on a secret questG
-
Though in royal splendour she drives through townI
Her robes are simple she wears no crownI
And yet she wears one for widowed no moreJ
She is crowned with the love that has gone beforeJ
And crowned with the love she has left behindG
In the hidden depths of each mourner's mindG
-
Bow low your heads lift your hearts on highD
The Queen in silence is driving byD
