The Punished Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFCF

Not they who know the awful gibbet's anguishA
Not they who while sad years go by them inB
The sunless cells of lonely prisons languishA
Do suffer fullest penalty for sinB
-
'Tis they who walk the highways unsuspectedC
Yet with grim fear for ever at their sideD
Who hug the corpse of some sin undetectedC
A corpse no grave or coffin lid can hideD
-
'Tis they who are in their own chambers hauntedE
By thoughts that like unbidden guests intrudeF
And sit down uninvited and unwantedC
And make a nightmare of the solitudeF
