The Play Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABAB CDCDCD EFEFEF GHGHGH GIGIGI

In the rosy light of my day's fair morningA
Ere ever a storm cloud darkened the westB
Ere even a shadow of night gave warningA
When life seemed only a pleasure questB
Why then all humour and comedy scorningA
I liked high tragedy bestB
-
I liked the challenge the fierce fought duelC
With a death or a parting in every actD
I liked the villain to be more cruelC
Than the basest villain could be in factD
For it fed the fires of my mind with the fuelC
Of the things that my life lackedD
-
But as time passed on and I met real sorrowE
And she played at night on the stage my heartF
I found I could not forget on the morrowE
The pain I had felt in her tragic partF
For alas no longer I needed to borrowE
My grief from the actor's artF
-
And as life grows older and therefore sadderG
Though sweeter maybe with its autumn hazeH
I find more pleasure in watching the gladderG
And lighter order of humorous playsH
Where the mirth is as mad or maybe madderG
Than the mirth of my lost daysH
-
I like to be forced to laugh and be merryG
Though the earth with sorrow and pain is rifeI
I like for an evening at least to buryG
All thoughts of trouble or pain or strifeI
In sooth I like to be moved to the veryG
Emotions I miss in lifeI
