The Need Of The World Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBCCDEB AFGFGGHHB AEIEIIJJB AKLKLLMMB NODODDPPA

I know the need of the worldA
Though it would not have me knowB
It would hide its sorrow deepC
Where only God may goB
Yet its secret it can not keepC
It tells it awake or asleepC
It tells it to all who will heedD
And he who runs may readE
The need of the world I knowB
-
I know the need of the worldA
When it boasts of its wealth the loudestF
When it flaunts it in all men's eyesG
When its mien is the gayest and proudestF
Oh ever it lies it liesG
For the sound of its laughter diesG
In a sob and a smothered moanH
And it weeps when it sits aloneH
The need of the world I knowB
-
I know the need of the worldA
When the earth shakes under the treadE
Of men who march to the fightI
When rivers with blood are redE
And there is no law but mightI
And the wrong way seems the rightI
When he who slaughters the mostJ
Is all men's pride and boastJ
The need of the world I knowB
-
I know the need of the worldA
When it babbles of gold and fameK
It is only to lead us astrayL
From the thing that it dare not nameK
For this is the sad world's wayL
Oh poor blind world grown greyL
With the need of a thing so nearM
With the want of a thing so dearM
The need of the world I knowB
-
The need of the world is loveN
Deep under the pride of powerO
Down under its lust of greedD
For the joys that last but an hourO
There lies forever its needD
For love is the law and the creedD
And love is the unnamed goalP
Of life from man to the moleP
Love is the need of the worldA
