Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDEFG HIJK LMKN OJP QRKSTU VWXYZA2B2C2D2E2F2CG2 KH2What shall the leader be in that great day | A |
When we who sleep and dream that we are slaves | B |
Shall wake and know that Liberty is ours | C |
Mark well that word not yours not mine but ours | C |
For through the mingling of the separate streams | D |
Of individual protest and desire | E |
In one united sea of purpose lies | F |
The course to Freedom | G |
- | |
When Progression takes | H |
Her undisputed right of way and sinks | I |
The old traditions and conventions where | J |
They may not rise what shall the leader be | K |
- | |
No mighty warrior skilled in crafts of war | L |
Sowing earth's fertile furrows with dead men | M |
And staining crimson God's cerulean sea | K |
To prove his prowess to a shuddering world | N |
- | |
Nor yet a monarch with a silly crown | O |
Perched on an empty head an in bred heir | J |
To senseless titles and anemic blood | P |
- | |
No ruler purchased by the perjured votes | Q |
Of striving demagogues whose god is gold | R |
Not one of these shall lead to Liberty | K |
The weakness of the world cries out for strength | S |
The sorrow of the world cries out for hope | T |
Its suffering cries for kindness | U |
- | |
He who leads | V |
Must then be strong and hopeful as the dawn | W |
That rises unafraid and full of joy | X |
Above the blackness of the darkest night | Y |
He must be kind to every living thing | Z |
Kind as the Krishna Buddha and the Christ | A2 |
And full of love for all created life | B2 |
Oh not in war shall his great prowess lie | C2 |
Nor shall he find his pleasure in the chase | D2 |
Too great for slaughter friend of man and beast | E2 |
Touching the borders of the Unseen Realms | F2 |
And bringing down to earth their mystic fires | C |
To light our troubled pathways wise and kind | G2 |
And human to the core so shall he be | K |
The coming leader of the coming time | H2 |
