The Land Of Content Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCCA DEDEEFFA GHGHHBBA IJIJJKKA

I set out for the Land of ContentA
By the gay crowded pleasure highwayB
With laughter and jesting I wentA
With the mirth loving throng for a dayB
Then I knew I had wandered astrayB
For I met returned pilgrims belatedC
Who said We are weary and satedC
But we found not the Land of ContentA
-
I turned to the steep path of fameD
I said It is over yon heightE
This land with the beautiful nameD
Ambition will lend me its lightE
But I paused in my journey ere nightE
For the way grew so lonely and troubledF
I said my anxiety doubledF
This is not the road to ContentA
-
Then I joined the great rabble and throngG
That frequents the moneyed world's martH
But the greed and the grasping and wrongG
Left me only one wish to departH
And sickened and saddened at heartH
I hurried away from the gatewayB
For my soul and my spirit said straightwayB
This is not the road to ContentA
-
Then weary in body and brainI
An overgrown path I detectedJ
And I said I will hide with my painI
In this byway unused and neglectedJ
Lo it led to the realm God selectedJ
To crown with His best gifts of beautyK
And through the dark pathway of dutyK
I came to the land of ContentA
