The Land Of Content Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCCA DEDEEFFA GHGHHBBA IJIJJKKAI set out for the Land of Content | A |
By the gay crowded pleasure highway | B |
With laughter and jesting I went | A |
With the mirth loving throng for a day | B |
Then I knew I had wandered astray | B |
For I met returned pilgrims belated | C |
Who said We are weary and sated | C |
But we found not the Land of Content | A |
- | |
I turned to the steep path of fame | D |
I said It is over yon height | E |
This land with the beautiful name | D |
Ambition will lend me its light | E |
But I paused in my journey ere night | E |
For the way grew so lonely and troubled | F |
I said my anxiety doubled | F |
This is not the road to Content | A |
- | |
Then I joined the great rabble and throng | G |
That frequents the moneyed world's mart | H |
But the greed and the grasping and wrong | G |
Left me only one wish to depart | H |
And sickened and saddened at heart | H |
I hurried away from the gateway | B |
For my soul and my spirit said straightway | B |
This is not the road to Content | A |
- | |
Then weary in body and brain | I |
An overgrown path I detected | J |
And I said I will hide with my pain | I |
In this byway unused and neglected | J |
Lo it led to the realm God selected | J |
To crown with His best gifts of beauty | K |
And through the dark pathway of duty | K |
I came to the land of Content | A |
