The King Of Candyland Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DADAEE FGFGHH IBIBJJ HGHGAA

Have you heard of the king of Candy landA
Well listen while I singB
He has pages on every handA
For he is a mighty kingB
And thousands of children bend the kneeC
And bow to this ruler of high degreeC
-
He has a smile oh like the sunD
And his face is round and blandA
His bright eyes twinkle and glow with funD
As the children kiss his handA
And everything toothsome melting sweetE
He scatters freely before their feetE
-
But wo for the children who follow himF
With loving praises and laughterG
For he is a monster ugly and grimF
That they go running afterG
And when they get well into the chaseH
He lifts his masque and shows his faceH
-
And ah but that is a gruesome sightI
For the followers of the kingB
The cheeks grow pale that once were brightI
And they sob instead of singB
And their teeth drop out and their eyes grow redJ
And they cannot sleep when they go to bedJ
-
And after they see the monster's faceH
They have no peaceful hourG
And they have aches in every placeH
And what was sweet seems sourG
Oh wo for that sorrowful foolish bandA
Who follow the king of Candy landA
