The Kettle Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBADED FGAGHIED JAKAEDLD MNLNODAD NPHPLDLD

There s many a house of grandeurA
With turret tower and domeB
That knows not peace or comfortC
And does not prove a homeB
I do not ask for splendourA
To crown my daily lotD
But this I ask a kitchenE
Where the kettles always hotD
-
If things are not all ship shapeF
I do not fume or fretG
A little clean disorderA
Does not my nerves upsetG
But one thing is essentialH
Or seems so in my thoughtI
And that s a tidy kitchenE
Where the kettle s always hotD
-
In my Aunt Hattie s householdJ
Though skies outside are drearA
Though times are dark and troubledK
You ll always find good cheerA
And in her quaint old kitchenE
The very homiest spotD
The kettle s always singingL
The water s always hotD
-
And if you have a headacheM
Whate er the hour may beN
There is no tedious waitingL
To get your cup of teaN
I don t know how she does itO
Some magic she has caughtD
For the kitchen s cool in summerA
Yet the kettle s always hotD
-
Oh there s naught else so drearyN
In household kingdom foundP
As a cold and sullen kettleH
That does not make a soundP
And I think that love is lackingL
In the hearts in such a spotD
Or the kettle would be singingL
And the water would be hotD
