The Heights Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDDB EEFF GGHH I JKK A L MA

I cried 'Dear Angel lead me to the heightsA
And spur me to the top 'B
The Angel answered 'StopC
And set thy house in order make it fairD
For absent ones who may be speeding thereD
Then will we talk of heights 'B
-
I put my house in order 'Now lead on '-
The Angel said 'Not yetE
Thy garden is besetE
By thorns and tares go weed it so all thoseF
Who come to gaze may find the unvexed roseF
Then will we journey on '-
-
I weeded well my garden 'All is done '-
The Angel shook his headG
'A beggar stands ' he saidG
'Outside thy gates till thou hast given heedH
And soothed his sorrow and supplied his needH
Say not that all is done '-
-
The beggar left me singing 'Now at lastI
At last the path is clear '-
'Nay there is one draws nearJ
Who seeks like thee the difficult highwayK
He lacks thy courage cheer him through the dayK
Then will we cry At last '-
-
I helped my weaker brother 'Now the heightsA
Oh Guide me Angel guide '-
The Presence at my sideL
With radiant face said 'Look where are we now '-
And lo we stood upon the mountain's browM
The heights the shining heightsA
