The Ghosts Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCAABC ADEAAFE G H GIH JKLMJKL BCBC

There was no wind and yet the airA
Seemed suddenly astirA
There were no forms and yet all spaceB
Seemed thronged with growing hostsC
They came from Where and from NowhereA
Like phantoms as they wereA
They came from many a land and placeB
The ghosts the ghosts the ghostsC
-
And some were white and some were greyA
And some were red as bloodD
Those ghosts of men who met their deathE
Upon the field of warA
Against the skies of fading dayA
Like banks of cloud they stoodF
And each wraith asked another wraithE
'What were we fighting for '-
-
One said 'I was my mother's allG
And she was old and blind '-
Another 'Back on earth my wifeH
And week old baby lie '-
Another 'At the bugle's callG
I left my bride behindI
Love made so beautiful my lifeH
I could not bear to die '-
-
In voices like the winds that moanJ
Among pine trees at nightK
They whispered long the newly deadL
While listening stars came outM
'We wonder if the cause is knownJ
And if the war was rightK
That killed us in our prime ' they saidL
'And what it was about '-
-
They came in throngs that filled all spaceB
Those whispering phantom hostsC
They came from many a land and placeB
The ghosts the ghosts the ghostsC
