The Farewell Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDE AFAF

'Tis not the untried soldier new to dangerA
Who fears to enter into active strifeB
Amidst the roll of drums the cannon's rattleC
He craves adventure and thinks not of lifeB
-
But the scarred vetran knows the price of gloryD
He does not court the conflict or the frayE
He has no longing to rehearse that goryD
And most dramatic act or wars dark playE
-
He who to love has always been a strangerA
All unafraid may linger in your spellF
My heart has known the warfare and its dangerA
It craves no repitition so farewellF
