The Empty Bowl Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBCDEFDEC

I held the golden vessel of my soulA
And prayed that God would fill it from on highB
Day after day the importuning cryB
Grew stronger grew a heaven accusing doleA
Because no sacred waters laved my bowlA
'So full the fountain Lord wouldst Thou denyB
The little needed for a soul's supplyB
I ask but this small portion of Thy whole 'C
Then from the vast invisible SomewhereD
A voice as one love authorised by HimE
Spake and the tumult of my heart was stilledF
'Who wants the waters must the bowl prepareD
Pour out the self that chokes it to the brimE
But emptied vessels from the source are filled 'C
