The Empty Bowl Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBCDEFDEC| I held the golden vessel of my soul | A |
| And prayed that God would fill it from on high | B |
| Day after day the importuning cry | B |
| Grew stronger grew a heaven accusing dole | A |
| Because no sacred waters laved my bowl | A |
| 'So full the fountain Lord wouldst Thou deny | B |
| The little needed for a soul's supply | B |
| I ask but this small portion of Thy whole ' | C |
| Then from the vast invisible Somewhere | D |
| A voice as one love authorised by Him | E |
| Spake and the tumult of my heart was stilled | F |
| 'Who wants the waters must the bowl prepare | D |
| Pour out the self that chokes it to the brim | E |
| But emptied vessels from the source are filled ' | C |
