The Coquette Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGI

Alone she sat with her accusing heartA
That like a restless comrade frightened sleepB
And every thought that found her left a dartA
That hurt her so she could not even weepB
-
Her heart that once had been a cup well filledC
With love's red wine save for some drops of gallD
She knew was empty though it had not spilledC
Its sweets for one but wasted them on allD
-
She stood upon the grave of her dead truthE
And saw her soul's bright armour red with rustF
And knew that all the riches of her youthE
Were Dead Sea apples crumbling into dustF
-
Love that had turned to bitter biting scornG
Hearthstones despoiled and homes made desolateH
Made her cry out that she was ever bornG
To loathe her beauty and to curse her fateI
