Never since the race was startedA
Had a boy in any climeB
Cause to be so thankful heartedA
As the boys of present timeB
-
Not a girl in old times livingC
Let the world talk as it mayB
Found such reasons for ThanksgivingC
As the girls who live to dayB
-
Grandmas in their corners sittingC
Toiling till the day grew lateD
What knew they with endless knittingC
Of the jolly roller skateD
-
Grandpas sitting by the fenderE
Reading by the faggots' blazeF
What knew they of modern splendorE
Found in incandescent raysF
-
Where they toiled in bitter weatherE
Braving rain and snow and sleetG
Gathering sticks of wood togetherE
We have radiators' heatG
-
But these fruits of modern scienceH
They first planted seed by seedI
In their strength and self relianceH
We may find a noble creedI
-
With the dawn of great inventionsJ
Came the anti warring daysF
Men are sick of armed contentionsJ
God be thanked with heart felt praiseF
-
Once a boy was trained for fightingC
Now the world is better taughtK
'Tis an age when wrongs are rightingC
By the force of common thoughtK
-
Once a girl was trained for sewingC
Spinning knitting nothing moreL
She must never think of knowingC
Aught of things outside her doorL
-
If she soared above her spinningC
If she sought a life more broadM
She was looked upon as sinningC
'Gainst the laws of man and GodN
-
Now a girl is taught she's humanO
Brain and body soul and heartP
All are needed by the womanO
Who to day would play her partP
-
Swift and sure the world advancesQ
Let the critic carp who mayB
God be praised for all the chancesQ
Boys and girls enjoy to dayB
