The need of prayer | B |
Such lonely moments knowing not anywhere | B |
In any spot or place | C |
In all the far recesses of vast space | C |
Dwells any one to whom His prayers may rise | D |
And then methinks so urgent is His need | E |
God bids His prayers descend | F |
He that has ears to hear let him take heed | E |
For much God's prayers portend | F |
- | |
God flings His solar system forth to be | G |
Finished by beings who befit each sphere | H |
Not ours to pry the secrets out of Mars | I |
Our work lies here | J |
To star folk leave the stars | I |
There must be many worlds that give God care | B |
Young worlds that glow and burn | K |
Old worlds that freeze and fade | L |
This world is man's concern | K |
Methinks God must be very much dismayed | L |
Seeing the use we make of earth to day | M |
While loud we pray | M |

Last night in sleep beyond the earth's small zone | N |
Adventurously my spirit went alone | N |
Past lesser hells and heavens where souls may pause | O |
To learn the meaning of death's larger laws | O |
Past astral shapes and bodies of desire | P |
Past angels and archangels high and higher | P |
Until the pinnacles of space it trod | Q |
Then awestruck paused hearing the voice of God | Q |
- | |
'Mortals of earth for whom I shaped a sphere | H |
So spake the Voice 'there rises to Mine ear | J |
Eternal praises and eternal pleas | R |
Now after centuries I tire of these | R |
Have ye no knowledge of the Maker's needs | S |
Ye who ask favours and who praise by creeds | S |
- | |
Why has it not sufficed | T |
That unto this small earth I sent great Christ | T |
Divine expression of the mortal man | U |
To aid my plan | U |
- | |
'Why ask for more when all has been refused | V |
Why praise My name Who hourly am abused | V |
Why seek for Me or heaven when in you dwells | W |
Hate's lurid hells | W |
- | |
'Persistent praises and persuasive pleas | W |
I tire I tire of these | W |
But I the Maker of a billion suns | W |
Ask men to stop the blasphemy of guns ' | - |
This is God's prayer | B |
- | |
There must be many worlds that give God care | B |
