Heigh Ho Well the season s overA
Once again we ve come to LentB
Programme s changes from balls and partiesC
Now we re ordered to repentB
Forty days of self denialD
Tell you what I think it paysE
Know t l freshen my complexionF
Going slow for forty daysE
-
No more savoury French suppersG
Such as Madame R can giveH
Well I need a little thinningI
Just a trifle sure s you liveJ
Sometimes been afraid my plumpnessG
Might grow into downright fatK
Rector urges need of fastingI
Think there s lot of truth in thatK
-
We must meditate he tells usG
On our several acts of sinL
And repent them Let me see nowM
Whereabouts shall I beginL
Flirting yes they say tis wickedN
Well I m awful penitentO
Wonder if my handsome majorA
Goes to early Mass though LentB
-
Love of dress I m guilty there tooP
Guess it s my besetting sinL
Still I m somewhat like the lilliesG
For I neither toil or spinL
Forty days I ll wear my plainestP
Could repentance be more trueP
What a saving on my dressesG
They ll make over just like newP
-
Pride and worldliness and all thatP
Rector bade us pray aboutP
Every day through Lenten seasonF
And I mean to be devoutP
Papa always talks entrenchmentP
Lent is just the very thingI
Hope he ll get enough in pocketP
So we ll move up town next springI
