Summer's Farewell Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCBCC DEDEEFEFF GHGHHDHDD

All in the time when Earth did most deploreA
The cold ungracious aspect of young MayB
Sweet Summer came and bade him smile once moreA
She wove bright garlands and in winsome playB
She bound him willing captive Day by dayB
She found new wiles wherewith his heart to pleaseC
Or bright the sun or if the skies were grayB
They laughed together under spreading treesC
By running brooks or on the sandy shores of seasC
-
They were but comrades To that radiant maidD
No serious word he spake no lovers' pleaE
Like careless children glad and unafraidD
They sported in their opulence of gleeE
Her shining tresses floated wild and freeE
In simple lines her emerald garments hungF
She was both good to hear and fair to seeE
And when she laughed then Earth laughed too and flungF
His cares behind him and grew radiant and youngF
-
One golden day as he reclined beneathG
The arching azure of enchanting skiesH
Fair Summer came engirdled with a wreathG
Of gorgeous leaves all scintillant with dyesH
Effulgent was she yet within her eyesH
There hung a quivering mist of tears unshedD
Her crimson mantled bosom shook with sighsH
Above him bent the glory of her headD
And on his mouth she pressed a splendid kiss and fledD
