Summer Dreams Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCBB ADEEDD FGDDGG HIJJII KLMMLL

When the Summer sun is shiningA
And the green things push and growB
Oft my heart runs over measureC
With its flowing fount of pleasureC
As I feel the sea winds blowB
Ah then life is good I knowB
-
And I think of sweet birds buildingA
And of children fair and freeD
And of glowing sun kissed meadowsE
And of tender twilight shadowsE
And of boats upon the seaD
Oh then life seems good to meD
-
Then unbidden and unwantedF
Come the darker sadder sightsG
City shop and stifling alleyD
Where misfortune's children rallyD
And the hot crime breeding nightsG
And the dearth of God's delightsG
-
And I think of narrow prisonsH
Where unhappy songbirds dwellI
And of cruel pens and cagesJ
Where some captured wild thing ragesJ
Like a madman in his cellI
In the Zoo the wild beasts' hellI
-
And I long to lift the burdenK
Of man's selfishness and sinL
And to open wide earth's treasuresM
Of God's storehouse full of pleasuresM
For my dumb and human kinL
And to ask the whole world inL
