Success Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCCA DEDEEFFD GHGHHIID JKJKKLMN OPQPRAAO

As we gaze up life's slope as we gazeA
In the morn ere the dewdrops are dryB
What splendour hangs over the waysA
What glory gleams there in the skyB
What pleasures seem waiting us highB
On the peak of that beauteous slopeC
What rainbow hued colours of hopeC
As we gazeA
-
As we climb up the hill as we climbD
Our hearts our illusions are rentE
For Fate who is spouse of old TimeD
Is jealous of youth and contentE
With brows that are brooding and bentE
She shadows our sunlight of goldF
And the way grows lonely and coldF
As we climbD
-
As we toil on through trouble and painG
There are hands that will shelter and feedH
But once let us dare to ATTAING
They will bruise our bare hearts till they bleedH
'Tis the worst of all crimes to succeedH
Know this as ye feast on a crustI
Know this in the darkness and dustI
Ye who climbD
-
As we stand on the heights of successJ
Lo success seems as sad as defeatK
Through the lives we may succour and blessJ
Alone may its litter turn sweetK
And the world lying there at our feetK
With its cavilling praise and its sneerL
We must pity condone but not hearM
Where we standN
-
As we live on those heights we must liveO
With the courage and pride of a godP
For the world it has nothing to giveQ
But the scourge of the lash and the rodP
Our thoughts must be noble and broadR
Our purpose must challenge men's gazeA
While we seek not their blame or their praiseA
As we liveO
