Strength Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEFF GGHH

Who is the strong Not he who puts to testA
His sinews with the strong and proves the bestA
But he who dwells where weaklings congregateB
And never lets his splendid strength abateB
-
Who is the good Not he who walks each dayC
With moral men along the high clean wayC
But he who jostles gilded sin and shameD
Yet will not sell his honour or his nameD
-
Who is the wise Not he who from the startE
With Wisdom's followers has taken partE
But he who looks in Folly's tempting eyesF
And turns away perceiving her disguiseF
-
Who is serene Not he who flees his kindG
Some mountain fastness or some cave to findG
But he who in the city's noisiest sceneH
Keeps calm within he only is sereneH
