There is much in life that makes me sorry as I journeyA
down life s wayB
And I seem to see more pathos in poor humanC
Lives each dayB
I m sorry for the strong brave men who shieldD
the weak from harmE
But who in their own troubled hours find noF
Protecting armE
-
I m sorry for the victors who have reachedG
success to standH
As targets for the arrows shot by envious failure sI
handH
I m sorry for the generous hearts who freelyA
shared their wineJ
But drink alone the gall of tears in fortune sI
drear declineJ
-
I m sorry for the souls who build their own fame sI
funeral pyreK
Derided by the scornful throng like ice deridingL
fireK
I m sorry for the conquering ones tho know notM
sin s defeatN
But daily tread down fierce desire neath scorchedO
and bleeding feetN
-
I m sorry for the anguished hearts that break withP
passions strainQ
But I m sorrier for the poor starved souls thatR
Never knew love s painQ
Who hunger on through barren years not tastingL
joys they craveS
For sadder far is such a lot than weeping o er aT
graveS
-
I m sorry for the souls that come unwelcomedU
into birthV
I m sorry for the unloved old who cumber up theT
earthV
I m sorry for the suffering poor in life s greatW
maelstrom hurledX
In truth I m sorry for them all who make thisY
aching worldX
-
But underneath whate er seems sad and is notM
understoodZ
I know there lies hid from our sight a mightyA
germ of goodZ
And this belief stands firm by me my sermonC
motto textA2
The sorriest things in this life will seem grandestB2
in the nextA2
