Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EBE ADAD C CB AAAA CBCB

Last summer lazing by the seaA
I met a most entrancing creatureB
Her black eyes quite bewildered meA
She had a Spanish cast of featureB
-
She often smoked a cigaretteC
And did it in the cutest fashionD
Before a week passed by she setC
My young heart in a raging passionD
-
I swore I loved her as my lifeE
I gave her gems don't tell my tailorB
She promised to become my wifeE
But whispered 'Papa is my jailer '-
-
'We must be very sly you seeA
For Papa will not list to reasonD
You must not come to call on meA
Until he's gone from home a seasonD
-
'I'll send you word now don't forgetC
Take this as pledge I will remember '-
She gave me a perfumed cigaretteC
And turned and left me with SeptemberB
-
To day she sent her 'cards' to meA
'My presence asked' to see her marryA
That millionaire old banker CA
She has my 'presents ' so I'll tarryA
-
And still I feel a keen regretC
About the jewels that I gave herB
I've smoked the little cigaretteC
It had a most delicious flavourB
