Simple Creeds Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CCDD EFEF GGHI JEKE LLMM

If this were our creed it were creed enoughA
To keep us thoughtful and make us braveB
On this sad journey o'er pathways roughA
That lead us steadily on to the graveB
-
Speak no evil and cause no acheC
Utter no jest that can pain awakeC
Guard your actions and bridle your tongueD
Words are adders when hearts are stungD
-
If this were our aim it were all in soothE
That any soul needs to climb to heavenF
And we would not cumber the way of truthE
With dreary dogmas or rites priest givenF
-
Help whoever whenever you canG
Man for ever needs aid from manG
Let never a day die in the WestH
That you have not comforted some sad heartI
-
Were this our belief we need not broodJ
O'er intricate isms and modes of faithE
For this embodies the highest goalK
For the life we are living or after deathE
-
We meet no trials we do not needL
Well borne sorrow is holy seedL
It shall rise in a harvest of golden grainM
And a wise soul ever thanks God for painM
