Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFG FHIHABDB JKLKHEM MNAThe day has been wild and stormy | A |
And full of the wind's unrest | B |
And I sat down alone by the window | C |
While the sunset dyed the West | B |
And the holy rush of twilight | D |
As the day went over the hill | E |
Like the voice of a spirit seemed speaking | F |
And saying 'Peace be still ' | G |
- | |
Then I thought with sudden longing | F |
That it might be so with my woes | H |
That the life so wild and restless | I |
When it reached the eve's repose | H |
Might glow with a sudden glory | A |
And be crowned with peace and rest | B |
And the holy calm of twilight | D |
Might come to my troubled breast | B |
- | |
All of the pain and passion | J |
That trouble my life's long day | K |
As the winds go down at sunset | L |
May suddenly pass away | K |
And the wild and turbulent billows | H |
That surge in my heart at will | E |
Shall be hushed into calm and silence | M |
By the whisper 'Peace be still ' | - |
And my soul grew full of patience | M |
And I said 'I can bear it all | N |
Though the day be long and stormy | A |
The twilight at last must fall ' | - |
