Returned Birds Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDDC EFFE GHHG IJJI KLLK JMMJ NJJN OPPO

My heart to day is like a southern woodA
Through summer months it has been drunk with heatB
And slumbered on unmindful of the beatB
Of life beyond it sleep alone seemed goodA
-
Now milder Autumn's tints are in the skyC
The fervid heats of summer noons departD
And backward to the old haunts in my heartD
The golden robins and the blue birds flyC
-
I hear the flutter of their airy wingsE
They flock about the Spring's deserted nestF
And suddenly I feel within my breastF
The stirring of sweet half forgotten thingsE
-
Bright sunny mornings golden growing hoursG
The building of glad birds among the treesH
Wide open windows and the kindly breezeH
Bringing the perfume of half open flowersG
-
A blithe face at the window fair with truthI
A mellow laugh that falls like silver sprayJ
Down through the sunlight of the perfect dayJ
Ecstatic hopes that bud with Spring and YouthI
-
The morning time grew rank with summer blightK
The birds flew northward fresher fields to findL
And in our hearts we closed the folding blindL
While drooping blossoms withered in the lightK
-
The fair face at the window could not stayJ
The laugh grew weary with a minor strainM
That borders on the foreign realm of painM
And hopes that blossomed ripened to decayJ
-
Come happy birds and sing of vanished joyN
Of that sweet Spring for ever passed awayJ
No winter lies between us and that dayJ
But what is sadder than the sweets that cloyN
-
My heart is green with leafage come and wakeO
The old time echoes with the songs of gleeP
For only echoes now are left to meP
Though bloom and beauty cling to bush and brakeO
