| I backward glanced From valley plain and height | B |
| At intervals where my life path had run | A |
| Rose cross on cross and nailed upon each one | A |
| Was my dead self And yet that gruesome sight | B |
| Lent sudden splendour to the falling night | B |
| Showing the conquests that my soul had won | A |

| Up to the rising stars I looked and cried | C |
| 'There is no death for year on year re born | D |
| I wake to larger life to joy more great | E |
| So many times have I been crucified | C |
| So often seen the resurrection morn | D |
| I go triumphant though new Calvaries wait | E |
