Red Carnations Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GFGF HIHI JKJK LMLM

One time in Arcadie's fair bowersA
There met a bright immortal bandB
To choose their emblems from the flowersA
That made an Eden of that landB
-
Sweet Constancy with eyes of hopeC
Strayed down the garden path aloneD
And gathered sprays of heliotropeC
To place in clusters at her zoneD
-
True Friendship plucked the ivy greenE
Forever fresh forever fairF
Inconstancy with flippant mienE
The fading primrose chose to wearF
-
One moment Love the rose paused byG
But Beauty picked it for her hairF
Love paced the garden with a sighG
He found no fitting emblem thereF
-
Then suddenly he saw a flameH
A conflagration turned to bloomI
It even put the rose to shameH
Both in its beauty and perfumeI
-
He watched it and it did not fadeJ
He plucked it and it brighter grewK
In cold or heat all undismayedJ
It kept its fragrance and its hueK
-
Here deathless love and passion sleepL
He cried embodied in this flowerM
This is the emblem I will keepL
Love wore carnations from that hourM
