Recompense Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED FGFG HIHI JBJB HIHI

Straight through my heart this fact to dayA
By Truth s own hand is drivenB
God never takes one thing awayA
But something else is givenB
-
I did not know in earlier yearsC
This law of love and kindnessD
I only mourned through bitter tearsE
My loss in sorrow s blindnessD
-
But ever following each regretF
O er some departed treasureG
My sad repining heart was metF
With unexpected pleasureG
-
I thought is only happened soH
But time this truth taught meI
No least thing from my life can goH
But something else is brought to meI
-
It is the Law complete sublimeJ
And now with Faith unshakenB
In patience I but bide my timeJ
When any joy is takenB
-
No matter if the crushing blowH
May for the moment down meI
Still back of it waits Love I knowH
With some new gift to crown meI
