Poverty And Wealth Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDEEFFAAGGHHIIJJ KKLLMMNNOO

The stork flew over a town one dayA
And back of each wing an infant layA
One to a rich man s home he broughtB
And one he left at a labourer s cotC
The rich man said My son shall beD
A lordly ruler o er land and seaD
The labourer sighed Tis the good God s willE
That I have another mouth to fillE
The rich man s son grew strong and fairF
And proud with the pride of a millionaireF
His motto in life was Live while you mayA
And he crowded years in a single dayA
He bought position and name and placeG
And he bought him a wife with a handsome faceG
He journeyed over the whole wide worldH
But discontent his heart lay curledH
Like a serpent hidden in leaves and mossI
And life seemed hollow and gold was drossI
He scoffed at woman and doubted GodJ
And died like a beast and went back to the sodJ
The son of the labourer tilled the soilK
And thanked God daily for health and toilK
He wedded for love in his youthful primeL
And two lives chorded in tune and timeL
His wants were simple and simple his creedM
To trust God fully it served his needM
And lightened his labour and helped him to dieN
With a smile on his lips and a hope in his eyeN
When all is over and all is doneO
Now which of these men was the richer oneO
