Over The Water Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED FGFG HIHI JKJ FLFL

Think of it think of it over the waterA
Thousands of men to day march on to deathB
Think how the sun shines on fields red with slaughterA
How the air chokes with the cannon's hot breathB
-
-
How in the shadows perchance of this evenC
Hundreds of hearts will have paused in their beatD
Pale ghastly brows will be turned up to heavenE
Brows that were pressed by lips tender and sweetD
-
-
Think of the homes that these battles are leavingF
Destitute desolate dreary and dumbG
Think of the fond patient hearts that are grievingF
Breaking for loved ones who never will comeG
-
-
Ah we so recently felt this same anguishH
Women Oh women who suffer and prayI
We well can weep with you who weep and languishH
We have borne all you are bearing to dayI
-
-
'God speed the right ' we cry 'God be with Prussia '-
Yet to the mourners of soldiers who fallJ
Whether their tears flow in France or in RussiaK
Their dead are their dead and we pity them allJ
-
-
Think of it think of it hearts that are breakingF
Sorrowing suffering over the seaL
Think of the eyes that are blinded and achingF
With watching for those whom they never will seeL
