Over The Banisters Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CBCB DBDB EFEF DGDG HGHG IJIJ

Over the banisters bends a faceA
Daringly sweet and beguilingB
Somebody stands in careless graceA
And watching the picture smilingB
-
The light burns dim in the hall belowC
Nobody sees her standingB
Saying good night again soft and lowC
Halfway up to the landingB
-
Nobody only the eyes of brownD
Tender and full of meaningB
That smile on the fairest face in townD
Over the banisters leaningB
-
Tired and sleepy with drooping headE
I wonder why she lingersF
Now when the good nights all are saidE
Why somebody holds her fingersF
-
He holds her fingers and draws her downD
Suddenly growing bolderG
Till the loose hair drops its masses brownD
Like a mantle over his shoulderG
-
Over the banisters soft hands fairH
Brush his cheeks like a featherG
And bright brown tresses and dusky hairH
Meet and mingle togetherG
-
There's a question asked there's a swift caressI
She has flown like a bird from the hallwayJ
But over the banisters drops a YesI
That shall brighten the world for him alwayJ
