Only A Slight Flirtation Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JDFD AKIK LMNM LOAO

Twas just a slight flirtationA
And where s the harm I prayB
In that amusing pastimeC
So much in vogue to dayB
-
Her hand was plighted elsewhereD
To one she held most dearE
But why should she sit lonelyF
When other men are nearE
-
They walked to church togetherG
They sat upon the shoreH
She found him entertainingI
He found her something moreH
-
They rambled in the moonlightJ
It made her look so fairD
She let him praise her beautyF
And kiss her flowing hairD
-
Twas just a nice flirtationA
So sad the fellow diedK
Was drowned one day while boatingI
The week she was a brideK
-
A life went out in darknessL
A mother s fond heart brokeM
A maiden pined in secretN
With grief she never spokeM
-
While robed in bridal whitenessL
Queen of a festal throngO
She moved whose slight flirtationA
Had wrought this triple wrongO
