Only A Sad Mistake Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGI JKJL MAMA NBNB

Only a blunder a sad mistakeA
All my own fault and mine aloneB
The saddest error a heart can makeA
I was so young or I would have knownB
-
-
Only his rare sweet tender smileC
Only a lingering touch of his handD
I think I was dreaming all the whileC
The reason I did not understandD
-
-
Yet somewhere I've read men woo this wayE
That eyes speak sometimes before the tongueF
And I was sure he would speak some dayE
Pardon the folly I was so youngF
-
-
Was I say for now I am oldG
So old it seems like a hundred yearsH
Since I felt my heart growing hard and coldG
With a pain too bitter and deep for tearsI
-
-
I saw him lean over the stranger's chairJ
With a warm new light in his beautiful eyesK
And I woke from my dreaming then and thereJ
And went out of my self made ParadiseL
-
-
He never loved me I know I seeM
Such sad sad blunders as young hearts makeA
She did not win him away from meM
For he was not mine It was my mistakeA
-
-
A woman should wait for a man to speakN
Before she dreams of his love I ownB
But I was a girl girls' hearts are weakN
And the pain like the fault is mine aloneB
