Old Rhythm And Rhyme Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDEDD FGFGHIJI KKKK CLFL EDEDD

They tell me new methods now govern the MusesA
The modes of expression have changed with the timesB
That low is the rank of the poet who usesA
The old fashioned verse with intentional rhymesB
And quite out of date too is rhythmical metreC
The critics declare it an insult to artD
But oh the sweet swing of it oh the clear ring of itE
Oh the great pulse of it right from the heartD
Art or no artD
-
I sat by the side of that old poet OceanF
And counted the billows that broke on the rocksG
The tide lilted in with a rhythmical motionF
The sea gulls dipped downward in time keeping flocksG
I watched while a giant wave gathered its forcesH
And then on the gray granite precipice burstI
And I knew as I counted while other waves mountedJ
I knew the tenth billow would rhyme with the firstI
-
Below in the village a church bell was chimingK
And back in the woodland a little bird sangK
And doubt it who will yet those two sounds were rhymingK
As out o'er the hill tops they echoed and rangK
-
The Wind and the Trees fell to talking togetherC
And nothing they said was didactic or terseL
But everything spoken was told in unbrokenF
And beautiful rhyming and rhythmical verseL
-
So rhythm I hail it though critics assail itE
And hold melting rhymes as an insult to artD
For oh the sweet swing of it oh the dear ring of itE
Oh the strong pulse of it right from the heartD
Art or no artD
