Nothing Remains Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDE AFAFGEHE CIAIJEJE KLKLDMDME

Nothing remains of unrecorded agesA
That lie in the silent cemetery timeB
Their wisdom may have shamed our wisest sagesC
Their glory may have been indeed sublimeB
How weak do seem our strivings after powerD
How poor the grandest efforts of our brainsE
If out of all we are in one short hourD
Nothing remainsE
-
Nothing remains but the Eternal SpacesA
Time and decay uproot the forest treesF
Even the mighty mountains leave their placesA
And sink their haughty heads beneath strange seasF
The great earth writhes in some convulsive spasmsG
And turns the proudest cities into plainsE
The level sea becomes a yawning chasmH
Nothing remainsE
-
Nothing remains but the Eternal ForcesC
The sad seas cease complaining and grow dryI
Rivers are drained and altered in their coursesA
Great stars pass out and vanish from the skyI
Ideas die and old religions perishJ
Our rarest pleasures and our keenest painsE
Are swept away with all we hate or cherishJ
Nothing remainsE
-
Nothing remains but the Eternal NamelessK
And all creative spirit of the LawL
Uncomprehended comprehensive blamelessK
Invincible resistless with no flawL
So full of love it must create for everD
Destroying that it may create againM
Persistent and perfecting in endeavourD
It yet must bring forth angels after menM
This this remainsE
