No Spring Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD CCCCAEAE FGFGHDHD CICIAGAGCFCF

Up from the South come the birds that were banishedA
Frightened away by the presence of frostB
Back to the vale comes the verdure that vanishedA
Back to the forest the leaves that were lostB
Over the hillside the carpet of splendourC
Folded through Winter Spring spreads down againD
Along the horizon the tints that were tenderC
Lost hues of Summer time burn bright as thenD
-
Only the mountains' high summits are hoaryC
To the ice fettered river the sun gives a keyC
Once more the gleaming shore lists to the storyC
Told by an amorous Summer kissed seaC
All things revive that in Winter time perishedA
The rose buds again in the light o' the sunE
All that was beautiful all that was cherishedA
Sweet things and dear things and all things save oneE
-
Late when the year and the roses were lyingF
Low with the ruins of Summer and bloomG
Down in the dust fell a love that was dyingF
And the snow piled over it and made it a tombG
Lo now the roses are budded for blossomH
Lo now the Summer is risen againD
Why dost thou bud not O Love of my bosomH
Why dost thou rise not and thrill me as thenD
-
Life without love is a year without SummerC
Heart without love is a wood without songI
Rise then revive then thou indolent comerC
Why dost thou lie in the dark earth so longI
Rise ah thou can'st not the rose tree that sheddestA
Its beautiful leaves in the Springtime may bloomG
But of cold things the coldest of dead things the deadestA
Love buried once rises not from the tombG
Green things may grow on the hillside and heatherC
Birds seek the forest and build there and singF
All things revive in the beautiful weatherC
But unto a dead love there cometh no SpringF
