New Year Resolve Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD CECE FGFG HIHI CJCJ

As the dead year is clasped by a dead DecemberA
So let your dead sins with your dead days lieB
A new life is yours and a new hope RememberA
We build our own ladders to climb to the skyB
-
Stand out in the sunlight of promise forgettingC
Whatever the past held of sorrow and wrongD
We waste half our strength in a useless regrettingC
We sit by old tombs in the dark too longD
-
Have you missed in your aim Well the mark is still shiningC
Did you faint in the race Well take breath for the nextE
Did the clouds drive you back But see yonder their liningC
Were you tempted and fell Let it serve for a textE
-
As each year hurries by let it join that processionF
Of skeleton shapes that march down to the pastG
While you take your place in the line of progressionF
With your eyes to the heavens your face to the blastG
-
I tell you the future can hold no terrorsH
For any sad soul while the stars revolveI
If he will stand firm on the grave of his errorsH
And instead of regretting resolve resolveI
-
It is never too late to begin rebuildingC
Though all into ruins your life seems hurledJ
For see how the light of the New Year is gildingC
The wan worn face of the bruised old worldJ
