Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDE BFGFHIJI KCLCMNIN AOPOAQRQ AFPFQBDB| Wherever my feet may wander | A |
| Wherever I chance to be | B |
| There comes with the coming of even' time | C |
| A vision sweet to me | B |
| I see my mother sitting | D |
| In the old familiar place | E |
| And she rocks to the tune her needles sing | D |
| And thinks of an absent face | E |
| - | |
| I can hear the roar of the city | B |
| AAbout me now as I write | F |
| But over an hundred miles of snow | G |
| My thought steeds fly tonight | F |
| To the dear little cozy cottage | H |
| And the room where mother sits | I |
| And slowly rocks in her easy chair | J |
| And thinks of me as she knits | I |
| - | |
| Sometimes with the merry dancers | K |
| When my feet are keeping time | C |
| And my heart beats high as young hearts will | L |
| To the music's rhythmic chime | C |
| My spirit slips over the distance | M |
| Over the glitter and whirl | N |
| To my mother who sits and rocks and knits | I |
| And thinks of her little girl | N |
| - | |
| And when I listen to voices that flatter | A |
| And smile as women do | O |
| To whispered words that may be sweet | P |
| But are not always true | O |
| I think of the sweet quaint picture | A |
| Afar in quiet ways | Q |
| And I know one smile of my mother's eyes | R |
| Is better than all their praise | Q |
| - | |
| And I know I can never wander | A |
| Far from the path of right | F |
| Though snares are set for a woman's feet | P |
| In places that seem most bright | F |
| For the vision is with me always | Q |
| Wherever I chance to be | B |
| Of mother sitting rocking and knitting | D |
| Thinking and praying for me | B |
