My Heaven Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDDC EFFE GHHG IEEI JKKJ

Unhoused in deserts of accepted thoughtA
And lost in jungles of confusing creedsB
My soul strayed homeless finding its own needsB
Unsatisfied with what tradition taughtA
-
The pros and cons the little ifs and andsC
The but and maybe and the this and thatD
On which the churches thicken and grow fatD
I found but structures built on shifting sandsC
-
And all their heavens were strange and far awayE
And all their hells were made of human hateF
And since for death I did not care to waitF
A heaven I fashioned for myself one dayE
-
Of happy thoughts I built it stone by stoneG
With joy of life I draped each spacious roomH
With love's great light I drove away all gloomH
And in the centre I made God a throneG
-
And this dear heaven I set within my heartI
And carried it about with me alwayE
And then the changing dogmas of the dayE
Seemed alien to my thoughts and held no partI
-
Now as I take my heaven from place to placeJ
I find new rooms by love's revealing lightK
And death will give me but a larger sightK
To see my palace spreading into spaceJ
