Midsummer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EEEEFGFG HIHIFJFJ HKHK

After the May time and after the June timeA
Rare with blossoms and perfumes sweetB
Cometh the round world's royal noon timeA
The red midsummer of blazing heatB
When the sun like an eye that never closesC
Bends on the earth its fervid gazeD
And the winds are still and the crimson rosesC
Droop and wither and die in its raysD
-
Unto my heart has come that seasonE
O my lady my worshipped oneE
When over the stars of Pride and ReasonE
Sails Love's cloudless noonday sunE
Like a great red ball in my bosom burningF
With fires that nothing can quench or tameG
It glows till my heart itself seems turningF
Into a liquid lake of flameG
-
The hopes half shy and the sighs all tenderH
The dreams and fears of an earlier dayI
Under the noontide's royal splendourH
Droop like roses and wither awayI
From the hills of doubt no winds are blowingF
From the isle of pain no breeze is sentJ
Only the sun in a white heat glowingF
Over an ocean of great contentJ
-
Sink O my soul in this golden gloryH
Die O my heart in thy rapture swoonK
For the Autumn must come with its mournful storyH
And Love's midsummer will fade too soonK
