Love's Sleep (vers De Societe) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJFKFK LMNMCFCF FOFO

We'll cover Love with rosesA
And sweet sleep he shall takeB
None but a fool supposesA
Love always keeps awakeB
I've known loves without numberC
True loves were they and triedD
And just for want of slumberC
They pined away and diedD
-
Our love was bright and cheerfulE
A little while agoneF
Now he is pale and tearfulE
And yes I've seen him yawnF
So tired is he of kissesG
That he can only weepH
The one dear thing he missesG
And longs for now is sleepH
-
We could not let him leave usI
One time he was so dearJ
But now it would not grieve usI
If he slept half a yearJ
For he has had his seasonF
Like the lily and the roseK
And it but stands to reasonF
That he should want reposeK
-
We prized the smiling CupidL
Who made our days so brightM
But he has grown so stupidN
We gladly say good nightM
And if he wakens tenderC
And fond and fair as whenF
He filled our lives with splendourC
We'll take him back againF
-
And should he never wakenF
As that perchance may beO
We will not weep forsakenF
But sing Love tra la leeO
